When it comes to online dating, our goal and our mission is to have the best online profile possible. This is our introduction to others, the first impression that we make. First impressions are usually lasting ones so the image we present to others is important.
To create the best online profile possible one needs only to put in a little thought and creativity. This does not mean making things up, of course, but in presenting all aspects of ourselves and the most positive way possible.
It starts off with your username. Put a little thought into it. Make it creative. It can be based on your name, your nickname or even the name of a fantasy character.
One problem you may encounter on the larger sites is that your first choice is already taken. Often, the site will suggest an alternative nickname for you by sticking a number onto the end of your original choice, but it can sometimes make it look like a license plate! You can accept a suggestion, or you can make your nickname unique by combining words together. Most sites will not allow overtly sexual usernames, however.
Another part of having the best profile possible is having a tasteful, flattering photo of yourself. Too many people rely on a dark, grainy webcam image of themselves. If you must use your webcam, at least take the time to make the picture as nice as possible by ensuring that the room (and your face) is adequately lighted, the camera is aimed properly and you are wearing your best smile.
A better choice may be to have a friend take a picture of you in an attractive setting, preferably outdoors, but not in overly harsh sunlight.
Your main profile photo should be one of you by yourself rather than in a group. A picture of yourself at a lap dance or with a group of friends is not a good choice.
You could use such photos in your photo album but not as your profile image. Put a little effort into your profile photo in order to look your best.
I'm not saying that you should attempt to do a "glamour shot." Rather, the profile picture should reflect who you are.
Ladies: Makeup should accentuate your features, not change them. Tone down the cleavage and the jewelry unless you want to present yourself as a sex siren!
Putting a little effort into your username and profile picture will help you to present your best face to the public -- literally!
